Charity & Community

At the Southampton Lodge, we believe in the power of giving back. Our commitment to charity and community work runs deep, and we’re proud to share some heart-warming stories of the impact we’ve made together.

Charitable Giving

Since 2021, the Province of Hampshire and Isle of Wight has been running a ‘Festival’, aimed at raising funds for the Masonic Charitable Foundation (https://mcf.org.uk/).

We are thrilled that members of the Southampton Lodge have played their part in this endeavour, with their generous donations already exceeding £20,000 to support this worthy cause.

Throughout 2025 the Southampton Lodge extended their support to the following charities and initiatives:

  1. Abby’s Heroes (https://www.abbysheroes.org/)
  2. The Oasis Hub (https://oasiseastsouthampton.org/)
  3. Bursledon, Hamble & Hound Dementia Action Group (https://www.facebook.com/BHHDAG/)
  4. Yellow Door (yellowdoor.org.uk)

Each of these organisations do incredible work to enrich lives and relieve suffering.

Presents

Each December, members of the Southampton Lodge come together to donate toys as part of a Province-wide initiative, ensuring that every child experiences the joy of Christmas. This often culminates in thousands of toys being able to be given to charities who can get them to where they are needed, and this year is no different.

The Southampton Lodge have also recently donated over £1,000 to the Hamwic Street Kitchen, who aim to prevent and relieve poverty for all who are experiencing hardship in Southampton through the provision of food, clothing, housing essentials and items for rough sleepers.

At the Southampton Lodge, we understand that charity encompasses more than monetary contributions – it can also be about giving your time and expertise to make a difference. Below are some examples of community initiatives that our members have also been involved in.

Community Work

We have members who are actively involved in The Rotary Club, a beacon of hope in our local community. Through weekly deliveries to local food banks and initiatives like providing winter clothing and medical supplies to Ukraine, they embody the spirit of service, touching the lives of countless individuals in need.

An example of our community involvement beyond borders comes from a member and his wife who have annually ‘over-wintered’ with a young Gambian family, helping them to establish a self-sufficient compound to secure a reliable future in their homeland.

Fully immersed in local rural life they become aware of other needs within the neighbouring community too, particularly in the provision of early learning and clinical care facilities, which have been much improved with financial support from others back home. It seems that bags of cement are as important now as bags of rice, and mobile phones preferred to exercise books and pencils. Looking back over 20 years they can see the impact of the many initiatives they have enabled in a village struggling into the 21st century, but will always reason that it is they that have gained the most from this commitment.

Moreover, our involvement can be found in various events such as remembrance parades, pride events, and local school activities, which underscores our pledge to be active participants in shaping a vibrant and inclusive community
